Scientific Background: SIK2 (QIK) is a protein-serine/threonine kinase of the CAMK group and CAMKL family. It is a member of the salt-inducible kinase family. SIK2 may modulate the efficiency of insulin signal transduction, and affect insulin resistancy. It is activated by phosphorylation on T175 by LKB1 (STK11) in complex with STE20-related adapter-alpha (STRAD alpha) pseudo kinase and CAB39. It stimulates histone deacetylases export. SIK2 is a centrosome kinase required for bipolar mitotic spindle formation, and may be a potential target for therapy in ovarian cancer.
