Peptide Name: RPS6 (232-242) pS235+pS236+pS240
Product Use: Services as a blocking peptide for use with the RPS6-pS235+pS236+pS240 rabbit polyclonal antibody (Cat. No.: AB-PN559) that is also available from Kinexus. This phosphopeptide may also be useful as a substrate for screening the phosphatase activity of protein phosphatases. The peptide sequence is located in the C-terminus of the ribosomal protein. These are the major in vivo phosphorylation sites in the S6 protein. Phosphorylation at S235 and S236 facilitates the assembly of the preinitiation complex.
Peptide Production Method: Solid-phase peptide synthesis
Peptide Origin: Homo sapiens
Peptide Sequence: RRL-pS-pS-LRA-pS-TS
Peptide Modifications N Terminus: Free amino
Scientific Background: RPS6 plays an important role in controlling cell growth and proliferation through the selective translation of particular classes of mRNA that are important in protein synthesis. It belongs to the ribosomal protein S6e family. Growth factor stimulation of cultured cells leads to stong phosphorylation of RPS6 at multiple sites located in its C-terminus, which enhances it translational activity. This phosphorylation may be mediated by several protein kinases including those in the p70 S6 kinase and RSK families.
