Scientific Background: Vav1 is a proto-oncogenic guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEF) of the Dbl family that couples receptor-protein-tyrosine kinase signals with the activation of the Rho/Rac GTPases to lead to cell differentiation and/or proliferation. It is expressed exclusively in hematopoietic cells and is important in hematopoiesis, by playing roles in T-cell and B-cell development and activation.
