Scientific Background: TAO2 is one of several protein kinases that can phosphorylate KinSub6RRGSF. TAO2 ( TAOK2) is a protein-serine/threonine kinase that is a member of the STE group of protein kinases in the STE20 family, and TAO subfamily. This kinase is highly expressed and widely distributed in most tested human tissues except in the brain and spinal cord where it is poorly expressed. TAO2 interacts with and activates MKK3 and MKK6, which phosphorylate and activate p38 MAPK. It also interfers with MAP3K7-binding to IKKa and thus prevents NF-kappa-B activation. TAO2 may play an important role in the activation of specific intracellular signalling pathways that are unique to osmotic stress.
